Mark Beeman
Dr. Mark Beeman is a professor of psychology at Northwestern University, where he conducts research on the cognitive basis of creative insight and problem-solving abilities, how mood affects attention focus and cognition, and the differences in functioning between the brain's right and left hemispheres. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the John Templeton Foundation, and the Office for Naval Research. He has been named a Kavli Fellow by the National Academy of Sciences. Additionally, he is a member of the nonprofit Association for Psychological Science and serves on the advisory board of the National Science Foundation. The research work of Kounios and Beeman on insight has been featured by American newspapers The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, by The Times of London, by the American National Public Radio, and has also been showcased in a BBC documentary. Furthermore, the research of these two scientists has been highlighted by The New Yorker magazine and is part of an exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
