Giorgos Myzalis

George Myzalis has been captivated by Greek music for as long as he can remember. His involvement spans various roles: as a listener, a student in music schools, an undergraduate and postgraduate music student, a professional in the music industry, a music critic, a journalist, a lyricist, a composer, and a songwriter. His first encounter with music dates back to his childhood when, according to family accounts, he could memorize lyrics and melodies long before he learned to read and write. The first concert he attended (1985 - O.A.K.A. Tribute to Manos Loizos) "enchanted" him and inevitably led him to music theory and guitar lessons the very next year. These lessons continued throughout elementary school, followed by his almost seamless transition to the Music High School and Lyceum of Pallini, and later to the Department of Music Studies (initially at the Ionian University and subsequently at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens). Concurrently, he began writing about Greek music as a music critic and journalist for websites and print media, while avidly attending concerts. His first foray into the official music industry was in 2000-2001, working at the record company Virgin under the direction of Yiannis Petridis. He returned to the industry a few years later, in 2006, starting his collaboration as a musicologist and researcher with the Greek Music Archive of A.E.P.I., which he directed from 2012 to 2017. He then pursued an Interdepartmental Master's at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Music Culture and Communication: Anthropological and Communicational Approaches to Music), with his thesis serving as a precursor to his doctoral dissertation on political song, completed in 2017. Today, he is the director of the members' department of E.Y.E.D.D. (Special Service for Emergency Rights Management) of O.P.I. (Hellenic Copyright Organization) and continues to write regularly for ogdoo.gr and his two blogs: www.musicspins.gr
