Maria Kariotaki

Maria Kariotaki was born in Athens, grew up in Heraklion, Crete, and studied education at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Freie Universität in Berlin. She completed her postgraduate studies in Children's Literature and Reading Promotion at the University of the Aegean. She works as a primary school teacher in Heraklion, Crete. In addition, she is involved in writing fairy tales, plays, poems, and songs. She is also active in children's theater. Since 2014, she has hosted a radio show on the children's radio station Family Radio. She has created many songs for children and collaborated with notable performers such as Giannis Zouganelis, Panos Mouzourakis, and Giannis Savvidakis, among others. She has been honored with a commendation from the Women's Literary Society in the category "Poetry for Children" (2013) and in the category "Literary Knowledge Book of Extensive Form for Children" (2018). In 2014, she published her first book with a music CD, "Mrs. Sindore and Musical Spelling," followed shortly by the continuation of the educational series "Mrs. Sindore and Grammar... Like a Fairy Tale" as well as the children's book "This is Life!". Her book "Mrs. Sindore and Musical Spelling" was distinguished as one of the top 10 favorite children's books of 2015 through an online poll organized by a bookstore chain.
