
Maria Nystazopoulou - Pelekidou
Maria Nystazopoulou-Pelekidou, Professor Emerita at the University of Ioannina, studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and in Paris at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes, the Sorbonne, and the Ecole des Langues Orientales. She worked as a researcher at the Center for Byzantine Research of the National Research Foundation (1961-1975) and served as a professor of the History of the Peoples of the Balkan Peninsula at the University of Ioannina (1975-1996). She is a member of Greek and international scientific committees, Vice President of the International Association of Byzantine Studies, and the Greek Committee for Southeast European Studies. She has authored studies and articles on the institutions and diplomacy of Byzantium and the history and institutions of Byzantine peoples during the medieval and modern periods.
