Eupraxia Bonofakidou-Zappala is known by the pseudonym Dolly Dalkas, given to her by Manolis Gialourakis. She was born in 1932 in Athens, but from 1934 she lived and grew up in Alexandria, where she studied at the local Greek schools. With the exodus of the Greek community from Egypt, she emigrated with her family to South Africa in 1961. Her first literary appearance was at the age of seventeen. She has published nine books and has received awards in literary competitions in Greece, Cyprus, and South Africa, as well as medals and other honors in Greece and abroad. In addition to literature, she is involved in painting and music composition. She married in 1965 and has two sons. She worked as a secretary at the Greek school "Saheti" in Johannesburg from 1978 to 2003.
