Lizy Tsirimokou

Elisavet (Lizzy) Tsirimokou was born in Athens. She studied philosophy and philology at the University of Athens (1967-1972) and later at the Sorbonne/Paris I University in Paris (postgraduate studies: 1972-1977, doctoral dissertation: 1979, on the topic: "La mise en scene d’Aristophane dans le theatre grec contemporain" ("The Staging of Aristophanes in Modern Greek Theatre") under the supervision of Olivier Revault d’Allonnes). From 1979-80, she taught literary theory and comparative literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (initially as a curator from 1979-80, then as a lecturer in the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies from 1982, as a lecturer in the Department of Philology from 1985, as an assistant professor from 1987, as an associate professor from 2001, and subsequently as a full and now emeritus professor in the Department of Philology at AUTh). Her books include the study "Literature of the City: Cities of Literature" (Lotus, 1988), the collected essays volume "Internal Speed" (Agra, 2000), and the annotated correspondence of Yiannis Ritsos with Kaiti Drosou and Aris Alexandrou ("Trajectories in Intersection", Agra, 2008). She translates critical and literary texts from French (Charles Baudelaire, "On the Essence of Laughter and Generally on the Comic in the Fine Arts", Agra, 2000; Georges Bataille, "Holiness, Eroticism and Solitude", To Rodakio, 1993; Georges Perec, "Thoughts/Classification", Agra, 2005). Her studies, essays, and articles are featured in journals and conference proceedings. She has reviewed books for the newspaper "Ta Nea" (2008-2014). Today, she regularly collaborates as a book critic with the "Books" supplement of the newspaper "To Vima", as well as with print and online literary magazines ("Entefktirio", "The Books' Journal", www.anagnostis.gr, etc.)
