In this book, Pietro Ingrao refers to "Indignez-vous!", the great publishing success of Stéphane Hessel in France and Greece, through a discussion with Italian academics Maria Luisa Botsia and Alberto Olivetti. This important Italian politician, commenting on Hessel's work, claims that indignation is not enough: "... I believe that replacing politics and, above all, replacing the creation of effective forms with indignation is a delusion..." This is certainly a basic response. However, it is necessary to build a political subject. Of course, we must understand well, study what it could be, what form it should take, understand how, little by little, this need can be realized..."
As mentioned in the preface of the book by Professor of Sociology at the University of the Aegean, Michalis Psimitis: "But beware: Ingrao does not blame indignation for the crisis of politics. On the contrary, he accuses tested politics as a process that identified representation with authorization, completely ignoring that the relationships between subjects require sustainable ways and rules of mutual expression and benefit. Thus, political action turned representation into a matter of numbers, violently neglecting the issue of the need for an internal dialogue in society between different experiences and cultures."
The work, following the content of the Italian edition, also includes a second conversation between Pietro Ingrao and Maria Luisa Botsia and Alberto Olivetti, which refers to doubt. According to Ingrao, "... doubt is not just an exercise of freedom. It is more of a necessary intermediary link between collective action and the sense of individual freedom...".
Finally, the discussion revolves around Ingrao's poetry, the creator of three poetry collections, while an attempt is made to approach his personal journey through the experience of his 96 years of life as a great Italian intellectual:
"... In this century, I learned the unspeakable of man, of each one of us, and the relationship with the other that we could never fully perceive. My fear is that they will take away from me not so much the bread or the Constitution, but the idea of man... Please, do not allow man to erase this question."
