If a few years ago, someone imaginative had dared to predict that the moment would come when a Greek government (and a "socialist" one at that) would take the fiscal consolidation measures included in the infamous memorandum, and even without significant social resistance despite the climate of widespread dissatisfaction (which, however, any government, with control of the media, is able to manage), they would probably be called crazy. However, nowadays it seems that the harsh anti-populist measures are currently being normalized and considered by many (and first and foremost by the government itself, which has taken on the management of the crisis) as a necessary evil. Of course, the multicultural and guilt-ridden Greek society groans and protests, but in a civilized manner, either on the internet or during collective walks in the center of Athens. One would say that our era is no longer that of "popular uprisings" and social revolutions.
The political morals and passions of today's "citizens of the world" have, superficially at least, modernized. In other words, collective consciousness seems to have been "cleansed" of national sensitivities and class contradictions of historical past. Most people declare progressive or at least "non-conservative" sensitivities - therefore, they do not resist to maintain certain social or political "acquired" rights. Moreover, the rights that are maintained sometimes appear as anachronisms or are interpreted as centers of guild privileges. At the same time, many citizens, expecting some incorruptible, new administrators, rightly denounce the corruption of politicians. All the above-mentioned conscious transformations and other types of political and cultural assets, which were acquired and cultivated especially during the last European decades, seem today, under the shadow of the memorandum, completely inadequate for the survival of the population of this country as a politically and collectively organized society.
So, the end of an era! And then what?
