"Broken Wings" deals with the story of an impossible love, the love of the narrator, a young idealist, for a compatriot of his, married against her will.

Perhaps the most romantic work of the great Lebanese author, and his only novel,
the book owes its title to a conversation that Gibran had with his mother a few months before her death:
"If you had not been born, you would have remained an angel in the heavens," she told him.
"I am always an angel," Gibran replied. "Where are your wings?" she asked him.
Gibran put his mother's hand on his shoulder and said, "Here they are, they are broken."
