In this book, obvious observations and passionate warnings of the author are hosted for three decades. From the selected articles of the author published in "Vima" and "Oikonomikos Tachydromos", which are commented on based on the events over time and what we experience today, it is evident that the nightmare we are living now was not only unpredictable but could also have been largely prevented. The strict criticism exercised not only on the respective Government but also on any other authority (parties, media, trade unions) was ignored. Common sense, from which these texts originated, was rejected by the comfortable or by those expecting to enjoy the prosperity provided by the free subsidies of the European Union, the reckless borrowing of the state and individuals, the cushy positions in the public or privileged public enterprises and guilds, along with the benefits secured by impunity in all kinds of misconduct.
It seems unbelievable that even during the period 1964-1966, when the thoughtless benefits from pension funds and recourse to borrowing from abroad began for the first time, the author warned (using the then in use Katharevousa) in his article "we borrow from abroad in order to repay our debts to abroad" and that "Greece has reached a deadlock due to continuous borrowing and non-productive exploitation". In this book, the reader can see how disastrous for the country the systematization of benefits with loans in the 1980s proved to be, which all governments have since continued in order to "have a good time" even at the expense of younger generations, who now face a nightmarish future.
What is highlighted in this book and was ignored when there was time, the author hopes can prove useful for the course even in the gloomy present.
As he wrote in the previous edition titled "Common Sense" (1993), many readers will realize that the author does not hesitate to clearly say what everyone would like to say in difficult times when they feel the need to vent, but does not dare out of fear of disturbing the powerful or jeopardizing personal interests or facing the mud, which is also used with a shovel against anyone attempting to shout, like the child in Andersen's famous fairy tale, that "the emperor is naked".
