Description

The story of Daphne and Johnny is a true story, which the author experienced in his adolescence "night after night". It unfolds in "Ritz", a cabaret of '51, with the saxophones covering the echo of the Civil War and an American officer living his romantic passion with a sinful Greek woman - while the Plastiras government signs the execution of Beloyannis. All these seem to have no relation to each other and yet they are the links of the same chain. Daphne knew nothing about her era, but at some point she would pay the price, in the same way that those civilians who were killed by stray bullets paid.

Wet Nights is the first book by Freddy Germanos - he wrote it between the ages of 17 and 26, but did not print it because he could not find a publisher. "Then I thought I was writing short stories," he says in his prologue. "Now, seeing it from the other end of the tunnel, I feel that I wrote, again, a period book. Only here the heroes, the historical characters of the book, are people I touched, in my 17 years, who walked next to them and who at some point wiped their tears with a handkerchief. We didn't have handkerchiefs yet..."
