This book defends the idea that for good or bad books, for happy leaps or slips and setbacks in children's literature, the author is not always the sole creator, as we usually think, but rather the moral creator with reduced responsibility. It argues in favor of the view that a large part of children's literature, its characteristics, aesthetics, and challenges, were shaped by the manipulations and decisions of publishers.
In the title of the book, "Publishers, Books, Children," the term publishers is emphasized, aiming to highlight their significant role in shaping children's books, especially literary ones, and the perceptions surrounding them. This does not mean that the other two terms in the title, books and children, which obviously imply books for children, are not also examined tangentially and complementarily. At the center of the reflections are the peculiarities of children's books, both in terms of their material aspects and the characteristics that give them identity and construct their meanings, as well as the challenges they present as "objects for negotiation" by the publishing community.
